A powerful new engine and sleek, eye-catching styling have made the Scion Toyota xA a successful addition to the modern lineup of cars provided by Toyota Motor Corporation. But power is just one component of a great vehicle. Features like safety, comfort, and convenience play vital roles in how you travel in your Scion and in how much you enjoy those travels.
The new xA offers a host of comfort and convenience features, including an audio control wheel, a Pioneer audio system with a new head unit design, and a remote mini-jack port for portable music sources.
Additionally, the xA offers dedicated Apple iPod connectivity that displays iPod information on the faceplate of the Pioneer head unit and allows control over basic functions as well as recharging of the device.
Due to new SAE testing procedures, the xA’s horsepower rating drops from 108 to 103. The Toyota xA is roomy, well equipped, and a spunky performer that should be at the top of your shopping list if you’re in the market for an economy car.
Toyota XA Overview
Toyota XA, which looks nothing like any other vehicle on the market, is nevertheless similar to Honda’s Element. It can carry a large number of passengers and cargo for its size, making it a great solution for transporting friends and gear.
The xA is a five-door hatchback, meanwhile which has a tall seating position and easy-folding rear seats. From some angles, it looks like a big-headed toddler version of the Matrix.
The Toyota XA comes with a Pioneer stereo with a CD player, air conditioning, power windows, locks and mirrors, steering, and antilock brakes.
Unlike the similar-sized Echo, the Xa’s optional features are mostly limited to airbags and sound systems. The car comes standard with side airbags in the front seat and head curtain airbags for front-and rear-seat occupants.

To help protect you in a crash, the xA has a first aid kit mounted above the glove box and optional side-impact airbags for front occupants. The front seats have full-length head curtain airbags as well. The xA earned four stars in government front and side-impact tests.
Driving
The xA, which shares its platform with the Echo and has never been a good handler, handles remarkably well with 15-inch wheels and tires and a rear stabilizer bar. Even though the xA is an economy car, it feels just as connected to the road when driven enthusiastically as more expensive sports cars.
While enthusiasts might prefer a Mazda 3 or Civic, most people will be more than satisfied with the Toyota’s ride and handling.
Interior
The interior of the Toyota xA is pleasant. Faux-aluminum trim gives it a look that’s more attractive than the plastic found in some Toyotas. Much of the plastic is matte, so it doesn’t catch the eye. The xA’s cabin design is functional, with a lot of useful features. A tall cabin means you can sit tall and gives the xA tons of headroom.
Although the backseat is smaller than that of the xB, it has about the same dimensions as those of the larger Toyota Matrix. Cargo space is plentiful, at 16.9 cubic feet (compared to just 9.8 cubic feet in the Fit).
When the rear seats are occupied, there’s not much cargo space. Fold down the rear seats, and you’ll have 32.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
The Toyota xA comes with ABS, air conditioning, power windows, locks, mirrors, and steering, a six-speaker Pioneer stereo with remote mini-jack port and CD player, a rear wiper, and a defroster. You can add a CD player, satellite radio, and a subwoofer to your car. Your dealer also offers other options like alloy wheels, a roof rack, and keyless entry. If you want to go even faster, get a strut tower brace and/or a cold air intake.
